What Does Your Candidate Experience Say About Your Company?

As a leading Kansas City staffing agency, Morgan Hunter knows when it comes to hiring, many employers focus on what they’re looking for in a candidate. Clearly, that’s important.

But if you’re gearing up for a big recruiting effort, are you also focusing on the experience job candidates will have with your company? If not, then you’re missing out on an opportunity to build a strong employer brand – and you could even be deterring top candidates from applying at your company.

So what do job candidates really want from the application and hiring process? According to results from Career Builder’s 2013 Candidate Behavior Study, here’s a look:

1. Mobile Access

The majority of job seekers out there use their phones and tablets to find and apply for jobs. And that number is just going to continue to grow. So if your career website is not mobile friendly, then you’re already sending the message that your company is out of date.

Plus, a job candidate who can’t access your job opportunities via their mobile device may not take the time to look for jobs at your company on their desktop or laptop…meaning you could be losing out on top talent.

2. Reputation Matters

Sure, you could be offering a lucrative, challenging, rewarding opportunity. But if you’ve got a bad reputation as an employer, trust us when we tell you the best candidates will not apply at your company.

But when you have a good reputation and a positive candidate experience, the results can be dramatic. Consider this statistic from the survey:

“68% of job seekers said they would accept a lower salary if the employer created a great impression through the hiring process.”

And in today’s day and age of social media, sharing information about a company – and whether they offer a positive work environment and candidate experience – is easier than ever. So if you’ve got a bad reputation, candidates will know!

3. The Resume Black Hole is Hurting You

If ignoring resumes from unqualified applicants or not getting back to a candidate you don’t want to hire after the interview is the norm at your company, then it does more than just have a negative impact on your ability to recruit. In fact, it can hurt sales, as well, as disgruntled job seekers are less likely to buy your product and/or service…and tell their friends and family why.

4. Flexibility is No Longer an Option

You’ve held off on flex schedules and letting employees telecommute for years. Why offer these options now? Because when you don’t, you’re hurting your ability to build the strongest team. Today’s job candidates, especially those with young families, not only want flexibility…they demand it. And if your company doesn’t offer it, they may not even consider an opportunity with you.
