employee spotlight

Every two weeks, we highlight one of our amazing recruiters so you can get to know the Morgan Hunter team a little bit better. This week we spoke with Stephanie Smithmier, Director or our Administrative Division!

What did you do before you were a recruiter with Morgan Hunter?

I was attending college. Morgan Hunter offered me my first job after college.

Where did you go to college?

MIZZOU

What did you earn your bachelor’s degree in and why?

Psychology; because when I was faced with the question of what I wanted to do with the rest of my life at 17…I chose people. I always knew I wanted to help people.

What is your favorite ‘90s jam?

Third Eye Blind

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

Oh gosh, I have three kids…so it’s stocked full of fresh fruit, milk, eggs, juice, SOOO many condiments, turkey deli meat, yogurt, the world’s largest applesauce bottle and a variety of beer options.

If you won $100 million in the lottery, what would you spend your money on?

First I would pay off our mortgage and car loans, as well as my families’…get our retirement funds padded & kids college accounts taken care of, buy a vacation home in Maine (probably Bar Harbor area), set up a ridiculous travel/vacation plan for the rest of my and Matt’s years, start a non-profit for Skin Cancer, give money to a variety of non-profits, etc.

What would you do if you were given a month sabbatical from work?

Travel to Argentina or Iceland with my husband and then go on a family vacation to Disney! And then have a week where the kids are back in school and Matt and I get to relax a little and also work on finishing our basement.

If we were to open your snack drawer, what would we find?

KIND chocolate chunk granola bars, almonds & gummy bears.

What should employers expect in the 2018 market?

To be making counteroffers to current, key employees, applicants entertaining multiple offers, to have to expedite the hiring process, to revise their open positions’ list of requirements…and last, but not least, to work more with recruiting firms in order to find the best talent who offer those outside the box/industry, transferable skills.

What should job seekers know about the 2018 job market?

It’s a job seeker’s market, now is the time to see what might be waiting for you! Be able to identify and sell your transferable skills both on your resume and in interviews.

If you could provide one tip to job seekers what would it be?

Build your network before you need it! Even though it’s a job-seekers market, having a strong network is invaluable when you are ready to embark on a job search. Make sure you include at least one recruiter as a part of your network who can be looking on your behalf!
