Employee Spotlight: Kat Salvo

Every two weeks, we highlight one of our amazing recruiters so you can get to know the Morgan Hunter team a little bit better. This week we spoke with Kat Salvo, Senior Recruiter in our Human Resources Division!

What did you do before you were a recruiter with Morgan Hunter?

Before coming to Morgan Hunter, I worked in retail for an upscale department store. I quickly grew with that company into a Human Resources role and fell in love with HR. After 7 years, I longed for a better work-life balance. I met with a recruiter in the HR Division here at Morgan Hunter and instantly became interested in the industry. Luckily, they asked me to join their team!

Where did you go to college?

I went to Mizzou. M-I-Z!

What did you earn your bachelor’s degree in and why?

I majored in International Marketing and Apparel Merchandising with a minor in Spanish. Back then, I saw myself becoming a buyer in retail. After working in the industry I realized it wasn’t for me.

What is your favorite ‘90s jam?

You can’t go wrong with TLC, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, and Britney!

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

Lots of veggies, fruit, string cheese and probably leftovers.

If you won $100 million in the lottery, what would you spend your money on?

I would, of course, take care of my family and friends first and take everyone on a beach vacation. After buying a couple homes and cars, I would invest a chunk. The rest would go to a couple local causes I love.

What is something you are passionate about?

I am very passionate about MADI Apparel (www.madiapparel.com). MADI stands for Make A Difference Intimates and was started by my college roommate, Hayley. She learned that the most under donated item in the world is underwear, something a lot of us take for granted. This simple garment tops the most urgent needs list at most domestic violence shelters and sexual assault clinics. She founded MADI in 2012 by designing beautiful intimates with the ‘One for One’ method. When an item from MADI Apparel is purchased, a pair of underwear is donated to a woman in need. Right now, we are getting ready for our Annual Runway to Impact Fashion Show in October. All proceeds go toward MADI Makes which is a non-profit employing local at-risk KC woman and helping them get back on their feet. MADI products are ethically made by sustainable bamboo cotton and cut and sewn locally. I love that I get to be involved in such an amazing cause and am so proud of my selfless friend.

If we were to open your snack drawer, what would we find?

Peanut butter, ONE bars, and oatmeal in case I forget to eat breakfast!

What should employers expect in the 2018 market?

The market is tight! I can’t recommend enough that companies move quickly on their 5-star candidates. Chances are, they already have 3 offers they are considering.

What should job seekers know about the 2018 job market?

Now is the time to passively look, see what your experience is worth in this market.

If you could provide one tip to job seekers what would it be?

Be patient in your job search, the right role will come along. Trust your gut!
