There are countless networking events going on across Kansas City at any given time. The above are just a small sampling of them. However, whichever ones you choose to attend, take the right approach so you can make the most of them and find a new job faster. For instance:

  • Have goals in mind. When you have specific goals in place, you’ll be able to use your time wiser. So ask yourself questions like: Is there a particular company you want to work for and seek out a representative from? Or are you simply looking for general job leads?
  • Research others going. If the event has a website, look it up and try to find out who is attending so you know what to expect.
  • Dress the part. Just as if you were going to an interview, make sure you look polished and professional. Also, use the forum for the event as a guide for how to dress. For instance, if it’s a happy hour in a bar, then business casual attire is more appropriate than a full suit.
  • Bring your business cards. You want people you meet to be able to get back in touch with you easily. So make sure you bring plenty of business cards with you.
  • Follow up. When you meet someone of interest, reach back out to them after the event. If it was a recruiter or hiring manager, ask about job openings or any status updates on positions you applied for. Make sure you’re polite and professional, never pestering.
